In 2019 I jumped out of an airplane over the north shore of Oahu for a spectacular Hawaiian skydive. I don’t remember what I was thinking as I boarded the plane but I think it’s fair to interpret the blank look on my face as a symptom of dissociation. Taking off and gaining altitude were the scariest parts because the small plane shook, rattled, and creaked like it was being held together by duct tape. (It probably wasn’t.) My favorite part was when I fell through a cloud. Consider how unusual that is! Falling through a cloud violates several laws of nature, chiefly the one that states that clouds are always up and we are always down. It was amazing!
